Ralph Fitch, the first English traveller
Concept
Ralph Fitch, the first English traveller
English contact with Bihar begins with a traveller, not with a factory. Ralph Fitch came to India in 1585-87, in Akbar's reign, and the printed key names him as the first Englishman to travel in Bihar. Peter Mundy, Manrique and Tavernier came later, so they are the wrong names for that first place.
A second question quotes the claim that people in Patna dug the earth for gold, and the key again names Ralph Fitch. The printed note immediately qualifies the story: there is no mention of gold actually being obtained from Patna. Keep both the key and the note. The traveller named is Fitch. The note refuses the idea that Patna yielded gold.
