From JnNURM to AMRUT:

Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) was replaced in 2015 by AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation). AMRUT has two sub-components:

  1. Urban Infrastructure and Governance (UIG): Covers two mission cities in Bihar:
    • Patna Urban Agglomeration: Patna, Danapur, Khagaul, and Phulwarisharif (solid waste management and water supply projects).
    • Bodhgaya: Water supply and sewerage projects.
  2. UIDSSMT (Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small & Medium Towns):

Covers 25 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) with population of 1 lakh+: Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Purnea, Arrah, Begusarai, Katihar, Munger, Chapra, Danapur, Saharsa, Hajipur, Sasaram, Dehri, Siwan, Bettiah, Motihari, Bagaha, Kishanganj, Jamalpur, Jehanabad, Buxar, and Aurangabad.

Funding Pattern: Central:State = 50:50 for towns up to 10 lakh population, and 30:70 for Patna. ULBs formulate Service Level Improvement Plans (SLIP) aggregated into the State Level Annual Action Plan (SLAAP).

Smart City Mission:

Launched in 2015 to develop 100 smart cities across India. Each city receives a central grant of Rs. 100 crore annually for 5 years, with matching state contributions. Three cities in Bihar qualified: Biharsharif, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur.
